I find it funny to read all of these reviews. Everyone seems to be upset by bouncers or the crowd. However, if you go in there on any given weekend, the place is packed. The bouncers handle all of the belligerents, and the bartenders are getting everyone their drinks. What more can you ask for in a bar? If you don‘t like Brothers then go to another bar....It‘ll be just as crowded and there will most likely be cover. (Note: I went to Brothers bar for 4 years straight....only paid cover maybe 4 times. So don‘t complain about cover, as they rarely charge cover. Of course they‘ll have cover on game days. Every bar worth going to does. Here are your options: If it‘s a home game, then why are you not at the game? If it‘s an away game, then either pay the cover or go to a friends place and watch it there. It‘s not that difficult. Realize that you‘re going to pay cover for an away game at most of the well-known bars anyways.)

This is the worst bar in IC. It is full of rich Chicago kids that don‘t mind having their parents pay for overpriced drinks. I‘ve always been charged cover here. The bouncers are rude arrogant d-bags and don‘t know how to make a drink. I do not understand how this bar gets any business but they deserve to be closed.

Best drink deals in Iowa City, great beer garden, and huge bar so it‘s easy to get drinks. For those complaining about their cover charge...they don‘t charge cover so that‘s weird. They charge $5 cover on game days but still remain by far the busiest bar. But I guess if you don‘t like people or tons of TVs you could go somewhere else. Also...really good food.

One of the worst bars in Iowa City!!! Bouncers are douchbags and the bartenders aren‘t any better!! I was charged to get in while my friend wasn‘t and I was the one who was over 21. Piece of crap bouncer didn‘t even i.d. him.. Drinks are terrible and it‘s always overly crowded....I highly wouldn‘t recommend going to this stink hole!!

Staff very rude, especially the bouncers. They let a Caucasian male into the bar who was wearing a white tee but would not allow a African American male into the bar. And when asked why they let the Caucasian male into the bar they denied it.

Went to Brothers after last Saturday‘s Game, they wanted a $5 cover charge. Get real! Plenty of other places to drink and have fun. I‘ll never go to Brothers again.

I love brother‘s bar! It‘s so much fun there and they always have awesome specials! The guy that said that there are too many underagers and testoterone charged punks must not have gone to the same place and if he did he must be really old and not know how to have fun anymore. Sucks to get old sorry big guy!

Too many drunk, underaged, testosterone charged punks here for me. However if you are looking for drunk, underaged, nymphomaniacs and don‘t mind getting a little hurl on your shoes, it might be just what you‘re looking for in a bar!

Great place, pretty much always free cover! Don‘t be a sucker and pay $5 to get into somewhere else.

I dont understand why this place is busy ever. Service is horrible the staff is rude and slow.

Awesome time!!! Great music and lots of fun. Especially like the 10 cent wings on Wednesday nights.

This is one of the worst bars I‘ve ever been to. It‘s crawling with kids who look like they fell out of a high school homecoming dance, and it‘s too crowded and loud to pick anyone up or hear your friends. The bouncers are racists -- I was playing pool with a black guy and both of us were wearing polo shirts, neither one of us had them tucked in. Three of them came over to the black guy and started harassing him because his polo shirt wasn‘t tucked in, but they left me alone.

Total dump.

In a recent trip to Iowa City I had the not so nice pleasure of visiting this not so fine establishment. Last time I take a cab drivers recommendation. If I knew I was going to an under-aged college house party I wouldn‘t have ever gone in. A kid that was no way in hell 21 went to the bathroom all over the floor while I was in there. Was spilled on at least 4 times, and I was only there for one drink. That one drink took 15 minutes to get by the way. I am on the road a lot for work, and finding a nice bar to have a few drinks is usually pretty easy. Not in this situation. One of the worst places I‘ve been.

When they first opened in spring of 2000 they would have $5.00 cup night on Thursdays...all the beer you can drink! That era kicked ass since they played good music, then it became trendy and they did away with the cup night and played clubbing musik. Haven‘t been there in awhile but its still a good place to go...cheers!

This place is HORRIBLE! I took my friends here that were black and they wouldn‘t let them in b/c they are BLACK. they were dressed VERY nicely since UNION treated them the same and wanted to avoid any excuses for not getting in but b/c one of them wore a "stright rimmed hat" they were not allowed in...even though I spotted FOUR white guys with the same type of hat. too bad that I took pictures of these people and the racist bouncer. GROW UP dumb iowan boys!

The place to go if you want to pick up a felon or a single mom with multiple kids! I guess that‘s why this place where the State of Iowa Parole Officer patrols on the weekends. Not joking, he actually does!

There is alot of Tranny guys dressed as girls on the dance floor preying upon straight guys. It funny when a dude dances with a man on accident. haha 1 dollar for barcardi 151 and coke and watching your buddy dance with a gay dude woman funny times. Place is freak show but they have good beer on tap for a dollar! NEW CASTLE

Basic chain bar with chain drink specials. If you enjoy waiting in line for cheap watery "beer" this is the place to go.

If you‘ve ever been downtown any night of the week you would see that Brothers always has tons of people in there compared to every other bar...that in itself says something

It‘s nice to have a bar you can go to without having a bunch of drunk underage kids falling all over you. The drinks are good, and fairly priced. I‘ve only ever seen people get thrown out when they are causing a scene or just being plain rude. The atmosphere is fun and the bartenders are nice. I would recommend this bar to anyone who asked. I also like the different specials they have during the week, it‘s not often that you have to pay a lot for a drink, and it‘s nice that they have so many different beers to choose from.

Brother‘s is the place to be anyday of the week. They have Awsome music and Drinks to match. Not to mention I didn‘t break my wallet either with thier beer specials. The staff is great and doesn‘t mind striking up a conversation with you if they aren‘t busy. I‘ve been going to brother‘s for three years! I‘ve never had any problems, the staff has always been great and aren‘t big muscular Bouncer‘s like most downtown bars. They‘re just normal people helping you have a Great time!

We agreed to start a Bar Crawl here and in the process - we were cheated by the Manager who over charged us for refreshements and when we ask about it, we were ask to leave and even before we left we were assaulted by the "alleged" bouncers who werevicious bullies who ended up causing serious injuries to one in our party and are currently pending charges with the City of Iowa City. Lawsuits are also pending, do your self a favor and don‘t go here

Wouldn‘t call it a "dive bar", but not the best place to get a drink. A lot less crowded when the outside area is open, but the music they play is almost never good.

Its obvious that the good reviews are from people who work there. If you want hotties, dont look here. If you want good drinks made right, go somewhere else. There are a lot of awesome bars in iowa city and this is not one of them.

Not the place for me, but I‘m not in college anymore. The service has been so bad that we‘ve had to call the bar from our table to get a waitress to come over to us and the bar was almost empty at the time.

I went there the other day and it took me forever to get a drink and it wasnt even that busy. When I did get served the drink was so weak I had to buy a lot of them to even get buzzed.
